Rivian CEO, RJ Scaringe, has revealed the company's plans to introduce a new version of the R1S electric SUV this fall, featuring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a max battery pack. The R1S Dual-Motor Max is expected to have a range of 390 miles (628 km), outperforming all other R1S models.

Rivian is set to introduce a new version of its R1S SUV this fall. The R1S Dual-Motor Max will feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a max battery pack. Rivian CEO, RJ Scaringe, announced that the SUV will retain its seven-seat configuration and is expected to have a range of 390 miles (628 km), making it the highest-range R1S model yet.

The R1S Dual-Motor Max will easily surpass the current R1S quad motor with the large battery pack, which has an EPA range of up to 321 miles (517 km). It will also exceed the projected range of 260+ miles (418 km) for the R1S with the dual-motor all-wheel drive system and standard battery pack.

Rivian did not provide specific details on the new model's powertrain, but the company stated that the SUV would be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in as little as 3.5 seconds. This is half a second slower than the quad-motor variant, but the standard dual-motor model will be one second slower.

Rivian will offer two dual-motor all-wheel-drive systems for the R1S. The base unit will produce a combined output of 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) and allow for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 4.5 seconds. Those looking for more speed can opt for the Dual+ system, which develops approximately 700 hp (522 kW / 710 PS).

Although Rivian did not reveal many details about the R1S Dual-Motor Max, Rivian said existing pre-order holders will have the opportunity to switch their order to the new variant when it becomes available.
