Tesla has announced a new unlimited overnight home charging plan priced at $30 per month under its "Tesla Electric" energy retailing business.

Tesla Electric, which is currently only available to Tesla Powerwall owners in Texas, is an energy retailing program that automatically buys and sells electricity for Tesla Powerwall owners, providing a buffer against peak prices.

Drew Baglino, senior vice president of engineering, announced the new unlimited overnight charging plan during Tesla's Investor Day. Baglino stated that the new plan will be available to people who have Tesla cars and will enable them to charge their vehicles overnight for a fixed price of $30 per month.

Baglino explained that the reason behind the launch of this new plan is the abundance of wind energy in Texas. He said, "This is part of reducing the total cost of ownership of our vehicles and the reason why we can do this is because Texas has a ton of wind. And in Texas, the wind blows at night."

The new plan is expected to be available in Texas from July 2023, and Tesla has hinted at more products to come under its "Tesla Electric" energy retailing business. If you drive a lot and charging at night is an option, the new plan could result in significant savings.
