What’s happening: Porsche is set to refresh the current Cayenne model with a comprehensive facelift next month, aimed at keeping the high-end SUV competitive and up-to-date. Meanwhile, the luxury automaker is also making preparations for the future of electric vehicles by selecting the production location for the forthcoming all-electric fourth-generation Cayenne.
More info: The manufacturing plant in Bratislava is responsible for the production of several VAG models built on the MLB Evo platform. Apart from the current Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe, the facility also produces the Touareg, Audi Q7, and Q8.
“The plant in Bratislava has done outstanding work in recent years and has received several awards. The future Cayenne will be the first all-electric SUV to be manufactured there. I’m sure that the team there will be meticulously prepared and will get the new generation to the starting line – when the time comes – in characteristic Porsche quality,” says Albrecht Reimold, Board Member for Production and Logistics at Porsche.
Key Points:
- Electric Cayenne will come after the Macan EV (2024) and 718 EV (2025). What we know for now, is that it'll go on sale before 2030 when the Zuffenhausen brand wants more than 80 percent of sales to come from purely electric vehicles.
- Porsche has already announced a further all-electric SUV above the Cayenne for the second half of the decade. That model will be produced at the Porsche factory in Leipzig.
- It's unclear whether there will be gasoline or diesel versions of the next-generation Cayenne.
- With the current Cayenne due to get a facelift next month, it means Porsche intends to have the SUV on sale for at least 3-4 years, so it's likely to overlap with the electric fourth-gen model.
Bottom Line: Porsche is preparing for the future of electric vehicles by selecting the production location for the all-electric fourth-generation Cayenne, which will be the first all-electric SUV to be manufactured in Bratislava, and is set to go on sale before 2030. The luxury automaker is also refreshing the current Cayenne model with a comprehensive facelift next month, aimed at keeping the high-end SUV competitive and up-to-date
