The Geely-owned brand's Long Range Dual Motor variant takes the top spot, while the Single Motor version comes in second, in one of the world's toughest car markets.

The Long Range Dual Motor variant of the Polestar 2 takes the top spot, making up 10.6% of the total volume of company cars leased last year through LeasePlan in Germany, while the Single Motor version comes in second at 9.7%. The affordable Dacia Spring is in third place, with other more expensive models like Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model 3 making it to the top 10. This news comes from LeasePlan, the company that released the results last month.

Here is the list of the top 10 most popular electric company cars in Germany in 2022, according to LeasePlan:

  1. Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor (10.6 percent)
  2. Polestar 2 Single Motor (9.7 percent)
  3. Dacia Spring (8.6 percent)
  4. Skoda Enyaq iV (6.9 percent)
  5. Renault Twingo Electric (6.3 percent)
  6. Tesla Model 3 Long Range (5.5 percent)
  7. Ford Mustang Mach-E (4.3 percent)
  8. Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance (3.3 percent)
  9. Tesla Model Y Long Range (3.2 percent)
  10. Mini Cooper SE (2.3 percent)

The Polestar 2 has also managed to crack the top ten overall standings, which include long-time favorites like the Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Passat, Ford Focus, and Skoda Octavia. The Long Range Dual Motor version of the Polestar 2 occupies the tenth position in the overall standings with 1.33 percent of the total volume of company cars leased last year through LeasePlan in Germany.

In terms of sales figures, the Polestar 2 has seen a significant increase on a year-to-year basis, with around 51,000 units sold globally in 2022, an increase of almost 80 percent over the previous year. The car was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019 and made its way to the United States two years later. In January, Polestar unveiled the facelift, which now offers rear-wheel drive as standard, more power, and more range.

Christopher Schmidt, commercial director at LeasePlan Germany, suggests that in the future, stronger incentives for electric cars must be created so that more and more drivers in companies can switch to electric drive and make the entire top 10 list greener.
