Swedish electric boat manufacturer Candela has introduced a new version of its zero-emission C-8 hydrofoil called the C-8 Center Console (C-8 CC). The eco-friendly powerboat is aimed at the popular center console powerboat segment in the U.S., which is often used for fishing and other recreational activities, but typically consumes a lot of fuel.
According to Candela, the C-8 CC consumes 80% less energy than conventional V-hulls and has a range of 65 miles (104 km) at a cruising speed of 22 knots/25 mph, making it the longest range electric boat on the market. The C-8 CC is powered by a single 100-horsepower pod motor, and Candela claims that a full battery charge costs less than ten dollars.
The electric boat is based on the C-8 hydrofoil that the Swedish company released in the summer of 2021, which has been called the "iPhone moment" for electric boating. The C-8 CC has a central steering unit and is designed for fishing, with low-noise and no-wake hydrofoil technology making it ideal for sneaking up on the big catch. The RPM of the C-POD motor can be seamlessly adjusted for any speed down to 0.2 knots, making it the perfect trolling motor for fishing enthusiasts.
Candela's partnership with Volvo's dedicated EV brand, Polestar, allows the company to use Polestar batteries to power all of its models. Candela's founder and CEO, Gustav Hasselskog, describes the C-POD motor as "like a high-powered outdrive combined with a low-speed trolling motor in one unit," making it the best low-speed fishing machine.
The Candela C-8 CC accommodates up to eight people with open bow seating and sofas for up to six passengers. There is also a sunbed and an extended swim platform with shower, as well as angler features such as rod holders and a depth sounder. The boat starts at a whopping $390,000 (€357,317) and is available for pre-order, with deliveries scheduled for summer 2024.
