Official images of the new Hyundai Mufasa have been released on the Chinese social media network Weibo before its public appearance at Auto Shanghai 2023 next week.

The Beijing Hyundai joint venture shared these images, showcasing an edgy design similar to the Tucson. The car features intricate vertical headlights and cylindrical taillights that differentiate it from the popular compact crossover models.

Hyundai has not yet disclosed the technical specifications for Mufasa, but they were indirectly revealed when China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology homologated it. According to the MIIT website, the compact crossover will have dimensions of 176.1 inches (4475 millimeters) in length, 72.8 inches (1850 mm) in width, and 65.5 inches (1665 mm) in height. These dimensions are comparable to the short-wheelbase Tucson that is available in Europe. The distance between the axles of the vehicle is 105.5 inches (2680 millimeters) and it weighs 3,227 pounds (1,464 kilograms).

According to a document, Hyundai plans to use a traditional 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine in the Mufasa, which will provide 160 horsepower to the front wheels. Reports from local media suggest that a hybrid option may become available in the future, potentially with a 48V mild-hybrid setup, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

After its debut at Auto Shanghai, the Mufasa will be available for purchase in China. It is unclear whether the model will be sold in any other markets.
