Magna and Ineos Automotive have partnered to create the first electric SUV from Ineos in 2026. The production of the off-roader will take place in Graz, Austria, and Magna will be responsible for the development of the entire vehicle.
This is an extension of their joint venture, which began in 2018 with the development of the Grenadier. Magna started working with INEOS Automotive in 2018 on complete vehicle engineering services ahead of the launch of the company’s first 4X4, the Grenadier. By the end of 2020, Ineos had already taken over the former Daimler plant in Hambach, France, where the SUV had been assembled since 2022, to produce the Grenadier.
The partners are not giving any details about the electric SUV. However, from a recent report, we know the EV will likely sit on a bespoke new platform with a targeted range of about 250 miles (400 kilometers) per charge. It will "look like a younger brother" of the Grenadier, which likely means a rugged and boxy exterior styling shared with the company’s first production model.
“This new electric vehicle adds nicely to our line-up in Austria and showcases our flexibility in producing a range of vehicles from ICE-based to fully electric,” says Roland Prettner, Interim President of Magna Complete Vehicles. “As a leading global contract manufacturer with a strong infrastructure and a highly qualified workforce, Magna is ideally positioned to support automakers like INEOS Automotive in turning their mobility vision into reality.”
