China's People's Liberation Army has tested an artillery gun with artificial intelligence (AI) that demonstrated unprecedented accuracy. Capable of hitting a person at a distance of 16km, the cannon's accuracy surpassed all expectations during tests.

China has developed an artillery gun equipped with artificial intelligence that can hit a person at a distance of 16km, according to a report in the South China Morning Post. The gun's accuracy, demonstrated during tests, exceeded all expectations, with none of the weapons in the Chinese army's arsenal able to match it.

The project was led by Wang Jiang, a Chinese professor at the Beijing Institute of Technology. The cannon is equipped with sensors, radars and cameras to gather information on target location, wind speed and other factors that need to be taken into account during firing. This data is then sent to a computer, which calculates the optimum angle and force required for firing.

Conventional projectiles can deviate from their target by up to 100 metres. Guided munitions solve this problem, but their accuracy is also limited. However, the use of AI processing data faster than traditional mathematical methods means that the cannon's accuracy is unparalleled. The AI-based cannon is also capable of automatically correcting its firing in real-time based on changes in the environment.

Chinese scientists have tested several AI models for complex trajectory changes, with the "division of labour" between several models significantly increasing the accuracy of hitting targets. The use of AI-based artillery systems could make it possible to accurately destroy enemy units and hidden military equipment, at a lower cost and more effectively than missiles.

It is worth noting that there is no independent confirmation of the cannon's capabilities beyond a few photos and articles on Chinese websites. Nonetheless, the potential of AI in military applications is becoming increasingly evident, with countries around the world investing in research and development in this area.
