During the 2023 Bank of America Global Automotive Summit, Ford's Jim Baumbick announced that the company is currently developing additional Bronco variants, similar to the Everglades, Raptor, and Heritage models. He emphasized the potential to cater to different customer segments and expand into new markets, indicating that there are many opportunities for the Bronco to evolve.
“On Bronco, we’re never going to let the foot off the throttle pedal,” he said. “We have a ton of opportunities in different spaces to speak to different customers. And I can tell you with perfect certainty if you look at something like a Bronco Raptor customer versus a Heritage customer, they’re very different. And for some customers, it’s a bit of a rustle. They want both. So this is a really incredible opportunity for us to leverage.”
According to sales data from the first quarter of this year, Ford sold 32,430 units of the Bronco in the United States, which is a 37.6% increase from last year's first quarter. In comparison, Jeep sold 37,971 units of the Wrangler in Q1 2023, but this was a 17% decrease from the 45,551 units sold in Q1 2022. If this trend continues, the Bronco may soon surpass the Wrangler in sales.
While no details have been released yet regarding the form the new versions will take, it's clear that Ford is determined to maintain momentum and secure a strong position in the off-road SUV market.
