BMW has given us a sneak peek at its upcoming i5 electric sedan through two new teasers that showcase its illuminated kidney grille and ambient interior lighting.

The teasers reveal the i5's sleek exterior silhouette and lighting elements, including the high, sleek headlights and the illuminated kidney grille. Additionally, one teaser gives a glimpse of the dashboard screen and ambient lighting element that spans from the doors to the dash. Both teasers also feature the sound of an electric motor.

Although BMW hasn't disclosed the i5's range or battery capacity, it has announced that the entry-level eDrive40 model will have a single rear-mounted motor producing 335 horsepower, while the hotter M60 xDrive will have a dual-motor setup making 590 horsepower. The automaker is targeting the i5 eDrive40 to have a range of 295 miles.

BMW will also offer plug-in hybrid and electrified powertrains in the regular 5 Series sedan, including the potent M5, which is set to debut later. The M5 is expected to have a plug-in hybrid powertrain that could make over 700 horsepower.

The i5 and its sibling will be revealed on May 24 in Europe, with production set to begin in Dingolfing, Germany, this summer. Sales are expected to start in October. While the i5 will come in two configurations, the automaker may expand the lineup beyond the launch variants. We'll have to wait and see what BMW has in store for the future of its electrified vehicles.
