As part of the homologation process, the long-wheelbase sedan has made an early appearance on a government website in China, showcasing its distinctive design.

Mercedes-Benz has chosen to retain the classic hood ornament on select models, and the upcoming E-Class L proudly carries on this tradition. With leaked images surfacing ahead of its official debut, the sedan exhibits a classic grille design and the prestigious three-pointed star hood ornament.

According to details revealed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the 2024 E-Class L for the Chinese market boasts an impressive length of 5092 millimeters (200.4 inches), making it 143 mm (5.6 in) longer than the global version. Additionally, the wheelbase has been extended by 133 mm (5.2 in) to a substantial 3094 mm (121.8 in), offering enhanced spaciousness for rear passengers. The sedan weighs approximately 1,940 kilograms (4,276 pounds), indicative of its robust construction.

Under the hood, the E-Class L will be available in two variants: the E 260 L and the E 300 L. Both models will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine. The E 260 L generates 201 hp (150 kW), while the more powerful E 300 L delivers 255 hp (190 kW). The base version of the E-Class L will have a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph), while the higher-performance variant will reach up to 245 km/h (152 mph).

Although the sedan didn't make its debut at Auto Shanghai 2023 last month, the local premiere is likely to occur in the coming months.

In the Chinese market, the E-Class L will face competition from other luxury sedans that have elongated wheelbases to provide additional rear legroom. Rivals such as the Jaguar XFL, BMW 5 Series Li, Audi A6L, and the A7L sedan have already established their presence in this niche segment.
