The i5 was previewed at the annual BMW conference in March, where CEO Oliver Zipse proudly proclaimed that it would offer a "truly unique selling point." Last month, BMW shared camouflaged images of the i5 undergoing testing at their proving grounds in Southern France, signaling its imminent arrival. However, the true design and appearance of the EV model remained a mystery until now. A leaked image, shared on Instagram by user liucuny-starandcar, has unveiled the i5 in its entirety.
From the leaked photo, we can observe that the i5 departs from the typical bulky BMW profile, presenting a cleaner and more aerodynamic front end. The iconic kidney grille, a hallmark of the automaker, maintains its prominent stature on the i5, while the overall design appears sleeker and more streamlined compared to the larger i7.
2024 BMW i5 Prototype
Over the past year, BMW has rigorously tested the i5 under extreme conditions, including snow and ice in Sweden, scorching heat, and various road terrains. These extensive trials ensure that the i5 will deliver exceptional performance and reliability. BMW has also emphasized the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) of the electric sedan, incorporating high-resolution cameras, radar sensors, and refined software.
The i5 is set to be officially unveiled later this month, with production commencing in the summer and deliveries expected in October.
