BMW has recently unveiled a captivating coachbuilt coupe derivative of its Z4 model, known as the BMW Concept Touring Coupe. While this stunning wagon-back two-seater won't enter series production, there is a glimmer of hope for automotive enthusiasts who have fallen for its charm. BMW is considering a limited production run of approximately 50 cars, catering to the desires of the super-rich.

Although the Z4 is already five years old and the roadster version sells in small numbers, BMW recognizes the appeal of the Concept Touring Coupe. The automaker has already received significant interest from affluent visitors at the recent Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza event. This positive response has sparked the possibility of translating this concept into reality.

“[The concept] is a one-off at the moment…and there’s no concrete plan to put it in production,” Motor1 reports BMW Group Design Director Adrian van Hooydonk telling journalists at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza.

“But, we made the agreement before we set sail for Lake Como that, if there’s enough interest, we will take a look at it. That could be a very low-volume version, like 50 cars or so.”

However, if BMW decides to proceed with this exclusive production, it will rely on external companies for manufacturing. Since BMW's plants are optimized for large-scale production, they are ill-suited to accommodate such a small run of vehicles. This unique collaboration with specialist firms may result in a considerably higher price point.

While exact pricing details have yet to be confirmed, industry insiders speculate that each Z4 Coupe could cost up to five times more than the entry-level Z4 sDrive, which starts at $52,800 in North America. Despite the absence of M branding or heritage, even at an estimated price of $250,000, the Z4 Coupe would still represent an enticing proposition compared to the iconic 3.0 CSL.

Ultimately, BMW's decision to move forward with the limited run of Z4 Touring Coupes will be driven by the level of interest from potential buyers. If this venture proves successful, fortunate customers will have the opportunity to own a truly exceptional and rare piece of automotive craftsmanship.
