In Ukraine, it has been possible to use a digital driver's license for several years. However, if before the e-document was generated as a supplement to the usual plastic card, now people can drive their vehicles without "plastic" at all.

The electronic driver's license works in the state's Diia app. Users can now easily exchange and renew their driver's licenses through this digital platform.

The electronic driver's license is valid throughout the entire territory of Ukraine. With just a few clicks in the app, users can submit a request to replace their driver's license. They have the option to choose between receiving a physical plastic card at an authorized Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) service center or obtaining an E-license, which is entirely digital.

Driver's license exchange is necessary in the following cases:

  • When the existing license has expired
  • When the text on the card is faded or illegible
  • When the driver's personal information (surname, name, patronymic, gender) has changed
  • When the owner chooses to replace the old license with a new one

Driver's license renewal is required when:

  • The license has been lost, stolen, or destroyed

E-licenses have unique series and numbers, just like traditional physical licenses. Ukrainian drivers now have the additional option of utilizing electronic documents without incurring the cost of physical card production.
