Waymo and Uber Technologies announced a partnership that will bring Waymo's autonomous driving technology to the Uber platform. This multi-year strategic collaboration aims to make the Waymo Driver accessible to a broader audience, starting in Phoenix.

Both Waymo and Uber have played pivotal roles in revolutionizing mobility since their founding in 2009. Now, they join forces to combine Waymo's world-leading autonomous driving technology with Uber's extensive ridesharing and delivery networks. The integration of these two industry giants will launch later this year, initially in Phoenix, featuring a limited number of Waymo vehicles.

Users of the Uber and Uber Eats apps will have the unique opportunity to experience the safety and convenience of the Waymo Driver. Additionally, passengers can still hail a Waymo vehicle directly through the Waymo One app. With an expansive operating territory spanning over 180 square miles, Waymo's Phoenix operations currently hold the distinction of being the world's largest fully autonomous service area.

Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo, expressed excitement about expanding access to the benefits of full autonomy, stating, "We’re excited to offer another way for people to experience the enjoyable and life-saving benefits of full autonomy. Uber has long been a leader in human-operated ridesharing, and the pairing of our pioneering technology and all-electric fleet with their customer network provides Waymo with an opportunity to reach even more people."

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, highlighted the significance of autonomous driving in everyday life and conveyed Uber's enthusiasm for incorporating Waymo's exceptional technology into their platform. Khosrowshahi stated, "Fully autonomous driving is quickly becoming part of everyday life, and we're excited to bring Waymo's incredible technology to the Uber platform."
