A Polarizing Design: Resembling a Star Wars Stormtrooper Helmet
The new Honda Inspire shares many of its components with the latest Accord model. While its predecessor offered a more upscale interpretation of the Japanese sedan, the new generation takes a bold step forward with a polarizing design that includes a significantly larger grille, reminiscent of the iconic helmet of Star Wars Stormtroopers. Notable differences in the front bumper intakes distinguish the Inspire from the Accord, although the LED headlights and bonnet are shared between the two models.
Distinctive Rear Design and Similarities with the North American Accord
While the profiles of the Inspire and the North American version of the Accord are virtually identical, there are notable distinctions in the rear end of the Inspire. It features slimmer taillights and a redesigned bumper with a small diffuser, adding a touch of sophistication and individuality to the sedan. As a result of these changes, the Inspire measures 4,979 mm (196 inches) in length, making it 9 mm (0.4 inches) longer than the Accord, while other measurements remain largely unchanged.
Interior Refinements
Inside the Dongfeng-Honda Inspire, minimal changes have been made compared to the Accord, as the layout remains largely unchanged. However, there are slight variations in the design of the climate vents, which now adopt a more conventional style, departing from the merging design seen in the Accord. Additionally, there are subtle differences in trim combinations, including variations in ambient lighting on the dashboard and door cards.
Powertrain Options: Conventional and Plug-In Hybrid Variants
The new Honda Inspire will offer a range of powertrain options. Among the choices will be both conventional and plug-in hybrid variants. While specific details for the Inspire e:PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) have not yet been released, it's worth noting that the Accord e:PHEV variant utilizes a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter engine, generating 181 hp (135 kW / 183 PS) combined with a single electric motor producing 146 hp (109 kW / 148 PS). Additionally, similar to the Chinese-spec Accord, the Inspire will also offer a non-electrified turbocharged 1.5-liter engine generating 189 hp (141 kW / 192 PS), paired exclusively with a CVT gearbox that transfers power to the front axle.
Launch and Local Manufacturing
Potential buyers in the Chinese market can expect the Honda Inspire to make its debut in June. The mid-size sedan will be locally manufactured through the joint venture between Dongfeng and Honda.
