The highly anticipated second-generation Kodiaq from Škoda is ready to make its debut this year. As the Czech car manufacturer continues to manufacture its successful SUV in Kvasiny, preparations are already underway to adapt the production line. With the first pilot production vehicles already in production, series production is set to commence next year.

Škoda Auto is investing 12 million euros in converting the production line to accommodate the next-generation Kodiaq. This investment will enable the production line to meet future requirements and produce the Kodiaq iV, which features a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The comprehensive modifications involve integrating existing technologies, such as manipulators, chassis assembly, and conveyors, as well as modifying robots for window-glue application. The upgraded production line will have the capacity to roll off up to 410 second-generation Kodiaqs daily.

The new Kodiaq will be manufactured at the Kvasiny plant on the same production line as the Karoq, Superb, and Superb iV models. With the new-generation Superb set to start production in Bratislava in early 2024, the Kvasiny plant will have additional capacity to produce approximately 150,000 additional units of the popular Kodiaq and Karoq SUVs annually.

"The preparations for the production of our upcoming second-generation Kodiaq are already in full swing. As is typical for Škoda, we are once again using existing infrastructure while cleverly integrating new technologies. However, comprehensively adapting and further future-proofing an assembly line that remains in operation is a highly demanding task both technically and logistically. At the same time, we have also successfully redistributed and optimized our model production and were thus able to free up additional capacity," said Michael Oeljeklaus, Škoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics.

The second-generation Kodiaq will be unveiled this autumn, with its market launch scheduled for 2024. Škoda Auto aims to take its largest SUV to a new level in terms of safety, technology, and versatility. The model will be available with petrol and diesel engines, a plug-in hybrid option, and, for the first time, a mild hybrid variant.

Since its global premiere in September 2016, over 800,000 Kodiaq units have been produced by Škoda at its plants in the Czech Republic, Ukraine, China, India, and Russia.
