Aston Martin is set to make a leap into the electric vehicle (EV) market with its first-ever electric vehicle scheduled for release in 2026. This upcoming EV will mark a new chapter for Aston Martin, as it will be built on an entirely new platform.

The announcement came from Aston Martin's Executive Chairman, Lawrence Stroll, during an interview with Autocar. Stroll said that the company's future plans will be unveiled at a capital markets day event on June 27. While specific details regarding the EV remain under wraps for now, insiders have disclosed that it will be an all-new model, designed from the ground up as an electric vehicle rather than a conversion of an existing Aston Martin model.

Stroll admitted that the demand for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is not currently high among Aston Martin customers, stating, "I don't have many customers asking me for a BEV." However, he expressed his enthusiasm for plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), which he believes will remain relevant well into the 2030s. This indicates Aston Martin's intention to offer a diverse range of electrified options to cater to varying customer preferences.

While the focus may be on the upcoming electric vehicle, Aston Martin is not neglecting its existing lineup. In the short term, the company plans to refresh its mainstream models, with the DB12 Volante being the next vehicle slated for release. Following closely after the Volante, the next-generation Vantage will hit the market. Aston Martin aims to position the new Vantage as a performance-oriented vehicle, differentiating it from the DB12.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin's Chief Creative Officer, provided some insight into the direction of the next Vantage. He described it as a "complete hooligan," emphasizing its thrilling and exhilarating nature. Reichman further elaborated that the performance of the next Vantage would set it apart from the DB12 significantly. Additionally, he hinted that the upcoming successor to the DBS would be an entirely different beast altogether, further fueling anticipation for Aston Martin's future lineup.

Spy photographers have already captured images of the forthcoming Vantage, showcasing its traditional Aston Martin design with notable updates. The most prominent changes are observed at the front, where the car features larger headlights and a "right-sized" grille. Other enhancements include a ventilated hood and a more curvaceous front bumper. The overall design retains the distinctive Aston Martin aesthetic, with a slightly sportier rear bumper reminiscent of the limited edition V12 Vantage.
