Andy Waugh Yacht Design has introduced a new concept called the Decadence, an 80-meter (262-foot) catamaran inspired by 1920s-era car design and aeronautical advances.

The Decadence features a SWATH (small-waterplane-area-twin-hull) hull form, which offers greater comfort and safety with a 70 percent reduction in pitch and roll movements compared to traditional yachts.

The catamaran has an impressive 30-meter (100-foot) beam, providing spacious interior and fully enclosable exterior areas on each deck. The sponsons, or outer hulls, offer additional usable space for the crew or technical areas.

Renderings of the Decadence show retractable or inflatable sails, which can provide additional wind power. The yacht also incorporates a radical new propulsion system that aims to reduce energy usage by up to 30 percent.

While the wide beam of the Decadence may pose challenges in navigating tight marinas, its stability and size make it less reliant on seeking shelter from adverse weather conditions. The yacht can accommodate two tender boats up to 45 feet in length for transportation to and from shore.
