NIO, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has implemented a battery swapping option in addition to conventional EV charging, with a significant number of battery swapping stations in operation.
During Labor Day week, NIO performed an impressive 432,191 battery swap services, with over 138,000 of them being complimentary swaps.
NIO customers actively utilize the battery swapping option, even though they could charge their cars at charging stations instead. NIO owners typically have a monthly allowance of 4-6 battery swap sessions, with some early buyers enjoying unlimited swaps.
The number of battery swaps performed by NIO has been steadily increasing, and the company set a record of 62,356 battery swaps in a single day in January.
NIO's EV sales are growing, indicating the potential for even higher numbers of battery swaps in the future.
