BMW is recalling a total of 318 BMW 7 Series and i7 models in the United States due to an issue with the front seats. The seat length adjustment system may not have been welded properly, compromising the seat's structural integrity and potentially increasing the risk of injury in certain collision scenarios.

The recall covers specific units of the 2023 BMW 740i, 760i xDrive, and i7 xDrive60, manufactured between November 30, 2022, and January 18, 2023, and between December 6, 2022, and December 19, 2022, respectively.

Owners of the affected models will receive notifications starting from July 31 and will be instructed to bring their vehicles to an authorized dealer for inspection and potential seat front structure replacement. BMW dealers will inspect and replace any suspect seat as necessary.

The BMW i7 is the first all-electric 7 Series model and is expected to be popular among luxury buyers looking for a zero-emissions vehicle. It utilizes a dual motor setup without rare earth materials and offers a maximum power output of 536 horsepower. The BMW 760i xDrive, on the other hand, is a combustion-powered 7 Series model and features BMW's new S68 engine, a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 536 horsepower.

The suggested retail price for the 2023 BMW 760i xDrive is $116,400, while the electric counterpart, the 2023 BMW i7 xDrive60, is priced at $119,300.
