Skoda, the renowned Czech automaker, is gearing up to introduce the second-generation Skoda Kodiaq this fall. The highly anticipated SUV promises to offer a host of exciting updates and features. One notable addition to the lineup is the plug-in hybrid variant, boasting an impressive electric range of over 100 kilometers (62 miles).

Design

While the upcoming Kodiaq stays true to its recognizable design, Skoda has incorporated subtle refinements and enhancements. The SUV maintains its iconic double headlight design, flanking a wide corporate grille. Aerodynamic improvements are noticeable with the presence of prominent vertical air curtains in the front bumper, optimizing airflow. The radar sensor, now more discreetly integrated, adds a touch of elegance to the front fascia.

Moving to the profile, Skoda has adjusted the positioning of the mirror pillars, aimed at enhancing aerodynamic efficiency. The second-generation Kodiaq measures 4758 millimeters (187.3 inches) in length, an increase of 61 mm (2.4 in) compared to its predecessor. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2791 mm (110 in), ensuring a spacious and comfortable interior.

At the rear, the Kodiaq features sleek taillights, which are expected to be wider than what we can see on the camouflaged pre-production model. These taillights are likely to extend onto the tailgate, providing an attractive visual element. Additionally, the tailgate grants access to a generous cargo area, offering between 340 and 845 liters of storage space, depending on seat configuration.

Powertrain Options

The 2024 Skoda Kodiaq will be available with a range of powertrain options to cater to different preferences. For starters, a mild-hybrid 1.5-liter TSI engine, delivering 150 horsepower (110 kW), will power the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A more robust 2.0 TSI engine, producing 204 horsepower (150 kW) and equipped with all-wheel drive and a dual-clutch transmission, will provide increased performance.

On the diesel front, the Kodiaq offers a 2.0 TDI engine in two power variants. The front-wheel-drive model generates 150 horsepower (110 kW), while the all-wheel-drive version boasts an impressive 193 horsepower (142 kW). Both models utilize the same dual-clutch automatic transmission for seamless gear shifts.

For the first time in a Skoda SUV, the 2024 Kodiaq will be available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Combining a 1.5 TSI engine with an electric motor, the PHEV variant delivers a total output of 204 horsepower (150 kW). Power is transmitted to the wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The PHEV model stands out with its impressive electric range, surpassing 100 kilometers (62 miles) thanks to its 25.7-kWh battery pack. Furthermore, the Kodiaq PHEV supports fast charging, with DC charging up to 50 kW and AC charging up to 11 kW.

Technological Advancements

Skoda's commitment to innovation and cutting-edge technology is evident in the 2024 Kodiaq. The SUV benefits from a range of features aimed at enhancing comfort, convenience, and safety. Noteworthy highlights include:

  • Full LED Matrix Headlights: The Kodiaq features an evolution of Skoda's advanced full LED matrix headlights, providing improved visibility and safety during nighttime driving.
  • High-Tech Infotainment System: Inside the cabin, a 12.9-inch touchscreen takes center stage, offering seamless access to various multimedia and connectivity features. Complementing the touchscreen is a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, providing essential driving information at a glance.
  • Remote Parking Function: The Kodiaq introduces a convenient remote parking function that can be accessed through a smartphone app. This feature allows drivers to effortlessly park their vehicle in tight spaces using their mobile device.
  • Enhanced Safety Systems: The 2024 Kodiaq incorporates advanced safety systems, including improved Emergency Assist and Traffic Jam Assist features. Additionally, adaptive cruise control, capable of operating at speeds up to 60 km/h (37 mph) and featuring stop & go functionality, further enhances the driving experience.

Skoda has planned an official unveiling for the new Kodiaq in the coming months. Alongside the Kodiaq, Skoda will also introduce the next-generation Superb in liftback and wagon body styles, further expanding its impressive lineup.

As we eagerly await the official launch, the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq.
