Toyota recently announced that they will be producing another 1,600 units of the GR Corolla specifically for North American buyers. However, until now, it remained uncertain whether the car would return to its home market in Japan. With the latest update, it has been confirmed that 550 units will indeed be allocated for Japanese buyers, with an official announcement scheduled for July 14. Production is expected to commence in September, as reported by Magazine X.
All the 550 GR Corolla models available for the Japanese market will be RZ trim models. Unfortunately, the track-focused, two-seater MORIZO edition will not be making a comeback, but some of its desirable features may still be present. Toyota plans to offer the Ultrasuede steering wheel and shift lever, previously exclusive to the special edition car, as optional accessories for the 2024 models.
Building on the lessons learned from the previous year, Toyota has made several modifications and enhancements to the new GR Corolla. These improvements include the addition of more bolts and anti-static tape to enhance stability. Furthermore, the upgraded brake ducts, wheel spacers, rear spoiler, mechanical limited slip differential, and reinforced metal clutch are all available as GR parts. Notably, the Matte Gray paint, which was previously exclusive to the MORIZO trim, has been discontinued. However, Japanese buyers will be pleased to discover a new Blue Flame paint color, which pairs beautifully with a black interior featuring blue stitching. Only 50 examples of this combination will be made available.
Similar to the previous year, potential buyers in Japan will have to participate in a lottery to secure the opportunity to purchase the 2024 Toyota GR Corolla. If lucky enough to be selected among the 550 winners, customers can expect prices for the car to start at 5,250,000 yen (approximately $36,384 USD based on current exchange rates).
