Opel has teased its newest concept car by revealing the name as the Opel Experimental. The German brand will release further details in the coming weeks before presenting the Opel Experimental to an international audience at the IAA Mobility in Munich, September 5-10.

Opel CEO, Florian Huettle, described the Experimental concept as “a symbol for what we want to achieve with the Opel brand”. The name is a nod to the 1965 Experimental GT which was the first design study by a European automaker. A single teaser photo shows the illuminated “Experimental” lettering that appears to be positioned on the pronounced side sills above a carbon-fiber skirt.

The Experimental concept will be the first vehicle to wear the simplified Blitz emblem, likely surrounded by cross-shaped LED strips forming the Opel Compass styling feature. Overall, the new concept will showcase the latest evolution of Opel’s “Bold and Pure” styling language which was originally introduced by the 2018 Opel GT X Experimental concept.

The company was coy on details about the bodystyle or the powertrain type of the concept. However, the “Greenovation” script on the bodywork hints at an eco-friendly character that could be supported by Stellantis-sourced fully electric underpinnings.
