When we think of Porsche, we instantly envision their sleek and powerful cars that ignite our automotive passions. However, there is an intriguing facet of the Porsche brand that often remains overlooked – Porsche Design, a sister company responsible for crafting an array of exquisite products beyond the realm of automobiles.

Among their lesser-known creations is the marvel of a powerboat, a rare gem that has recently surfaced in Boca Raton, Florida, and is now offered for sale at an awe-inspiring price of $495,000. While one might question investing such a substantial sum in a watercraft, it becomes apparent that this aquatic beauty is a genuine collector's item, belonging to an elite class of its own.

Revealed to be the Kineo 27, this extraordinary vessel was born from a collaborative vision in 1986, envisioned by Gerald (Jerry) Berton of Tempest Yachts and Dr. Horst Stross of Kineo. The core hull concept was adapted from the legendary powerboat designer Don Aronow, while Porsche Design brought its engineering prowess to the table. The heart of the Kineo 27 pulsated with two marinized and turbocharged Porsche 928 S4 V8s, producing a combined force of 800-1,000 PS (789-986 hp) and employing waterjet drives for enhanced performance.

With ambitions to distribute these opulent powerboats through Porsche dealers across the United States, the project encountered an unexpected obstacle during the recession, leading to its untimely demise in the early 1990s. Despite the setback, a handful of single-engined boats were completed in the U.S., including the remarkable vessel currently available for purchase in Florida.

Having spent three decades in storage, the Florida boat boasts a mere two hours on its hull and zero hours on the pristine Porsche V8 engine. The seller claims an impressive top speed of 65 mph (105 km/h), making it slower than a GT3 RS but ideal for coastal voyages.

Although it may not grace the racetrack like its automotive counterparts, the allure of hauling this aquatic masterpiece behind a Porsche 964 is undoubtedly enticing. For those captivated by the allure of both land and sea, this rare Porsche Design powerboat is an exceptional opportunity to own a piece of nautical history intertwined with automotive opulence.
