Google Maps is receiving updates for Android Auto, and one of the updates includes a redesign that's currently rolling out.
The new design adds a sidebar to the Maps experience in your car, where various controls are accessible. The previous design had map controls on the right side, but the new design keeps these controls constantly visible on a translucent bar on the left side of the screen.
The sidebar with controls only appears when the Google Maps app is displayed on the entire screen and won't show up in the dashboard view.
The redesign has been observed in Android Auto v10 with Google Maps v11.90, but there's a report of a reader seeing it with Android Auto v9.9.
