Mazda has canceled the American return of the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV plug-in hybrid. This version of the MX-30 is equipped with a rotary range extender and a smaller battery.
After announcing the discontinuation of the MX-30 EV for the American market, news has come to light that the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV plug-in hybrid is not coming stateside. A spokesperson for the automakers confirmed as much in a short statement to CarBuzz: "The MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV is no longer coming to the United States."
The MX-30 R-EV is the version of the outgoing EV equipped with a rotary range extender and a smaller battery, still managing a total range of 400 miles on the WLTP cycle. It was a big deal a couple of months ago, as it marked the return of the well-loved Wankel engine to mass production, last seen on the Mazda RX-8.
