The 70 Series, which was originally introduced in 1984 as a replacement for the ancient 40 Series, is getting its fourth facelift. Despite the introduction of newer Land Cruiser generations over the years, Toyota has continued to offer the 70 Series in some markets, including Australia and South Africa, with frequent updates to keep it relevant.

Upgraded Exterior: The 2024 Land Cruiser 70 Series features a redesigned exterior with round LED headlights embedded in the honeycomb grille, protruding turn signals reminiscent of the original design, and a new bumper with cleaner lines and unpainted plastic look, matching the fender extensions.

New Four-Cylinder Turbodiesel Option: The updated 70 Series comes with a new 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine option that produces 201 horsepower (150 kW / 204 PS) and 500 Nm (368.9 lb-ft) of torque. This engine provides improved fuel efficiency, reliability, low noise, and great off-road performance. It is mated to a 6-speed Super ECT automatic gearbox, with power sent to all four wheels through the 4WD system.

Existing V8 Turbodiesel Option: The traditional 4.5-liter V8 turbodiesel engine with 202 horsepower (151 kW / 205 PS) and 430 Nm (317.2 lb-ft) of torque remains available for all bodystyle options, but it is exclusively mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Safety and Technology Upgrades: The updated 70 Series comes with enhanced safety features, including the Toyota Safety Sense suite with lane departure alert, road sign assist, and auto high beams. Inside, there's a new instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch screen and a slightly revised center console.

Availability: The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series will be available in Japan in the coming winter, following its arrival in Australian showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2023. Pricing and availability details for other markets will be announced at a later date.
