McLaren's new production supercar, the 750S, is now available with an innovative multi-tone paint finish known as the Spectrum Theme. This development, created by McLaren's in-house bespoke personalization service, McLaren Special Operations (MSO), introduces cutting-edge paint techniques and stunning visual effects.

The Spectrum theme required the development of new techniques that offer customers something unique. Separate shades of color are carefully laid down to create a tonal shift defined by precision, giving a sense of speed and acceleration even when the car is stationary.

Michael McDonagh, Director at McLaren Special Operations, explains the extraordinary detail that went into this design: “The Spectrum Theme takes what we can do at McLaren to the next level. A huge degree of attention and accuracy is required to ensure the lines of the Spectrum are completely sympathetic to the surface of the 750S’s incredible bodywork, and the new techniques we’ve developed to achieve this are a perfect match for the 750’s wide-ranging technical advances.”

Three vibrant variants – Spectrum Blue, Spectrum Grey, and Spectrum Orange – can be further tailored with MSO bespoke personalisation, including options like vibrantly coloured leather trim, hand-painted Spectrum graded effect MSO logos, and a bespoke dedication plaque. The extended visual carbon fibre door sills add an extra touch of exclusivity to this already exceptional car.

However, the innovation doesn't stop with those three colours. MSO's flexibility and artistry enable Spectrum to be specified in unique colourways, designed and delivered with a perfectionist's touch. This requires the formulation of new paints that blend the right amount of light and dark tone to create a coherent shift in colour. There's no fixed formula; each Spectrum Theme requires bespoke blends to achieve the desired outcome.

The intricacies of this work also extend to the vehicle's specific design features. The aerodynamic sculpting of the dihedral doors and the shut lines required careful attention from MSO's technicians. Additionally, Spectrum Theme offers a visual nod to the popular Velocity Theme at the rear of the 750S, with a gentle Velocity fade that wraps around the back. This includes grading from Spectrum Blue to Metallic Aurora Blue, Spectrum Orange building to Gamma Red Metallic, and Spectrum Grey shifting to Metallic Meteorite Grey.

As a final touch of sophistication, the Active Rear Wing of the 750S can be finished in a contrasting colour, adding an extra layer of visual appeal to this already jaw-dropping vehicle.
