Bentley is set to reveal a new model at Monterey Car Week on August 18. This new model will feature a unique kind of fully organic leather that is tanned using Olive Mill Wastewater (OMW) technology, making it more environmentally friendly compared to traditional leather processing methods.

Traditionally, tanneries use all kinds of hazardous materials such as metals, minerals and aldehydes when processing leather. Thanks to the use of OMW technology, this leather can be tanned with an organic material that is free of these harmful substances.

The leather is supplied to Bentley by Pasubio SpA, and the brand says that the material resulting from the OMW process is soft and supple, just as you'd expect from a luxury vehicle.

“Leather is an integral component of our car interiors and a prime element in creating Bentley’s signature finish,” said Marc Stang, one of Bentley’s technical experts in leather. “It is also hard-wearing—especially important as 84 percent of all Bentley cars built are still on UK’s roads.”

The new material is the latest step in Bentley's sustainable leather strategy. The carmaker has already committed to strict traceability requirements to ensure that its leather material comes from the European Union and is not linked to deforestation. Several car manufacturers have been linked to the illegal destruction of the Amazon rainforest through the leather in their seats.
