The Toyota Rangga Concept was unveiled at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show as an idea for a multifunctional utility vehicle that buyers could customize according to their needs.

According to Toyota's vehicle announcement, the name Rangga is inspired by the word "Ronggo" in the Javanese language, which refers to a hero and carries connotations of being strong and tough. The Japanese automaker has the Rangga Concept Mobile Café, Rangga Concept Ambulance, Rangga Concept EV Mobile Service and Rangga Concept Pace Car to show the possibilities of what people could do with this platform.

Toyota hasn't released any technical details about the Rangga Concept. The physical dimensions of the vehicle have also not been revealed. Judging by the photos, it appears to be a fairly compact model. All versions have a single cab body.

Toyota says that a production version of the Rangga will come in the future. However, the announcement doesn't say exactly when it will go on sale.

Toyota is holding a contest in Indonesia for people to create renderings of what the Rangga could be. The automaker is providing a template, and artists can customize the vehicle from there. Examples in the gallery above include a drift truck and a camper. The creator of the winning design will receive the equivalent of $6,500 (100 million Indonesian rupiah).

When the production-ready Rangga arrives, local customizers would tailor the vehicle to a customer's specifications. Toyota even has representatives from local customization companies at the Indonesia International Auto Show to discuss the possibilities with potential buyers.
