The T-1000, in the blockbuster 1991 film, was composed of polymimetic alloy. This material enabled the Terminator to transform into various people and shapes. According to Omar Odeh, the Ford Group Product Marketing Manager for Enthusiast Vehicles, the color is exclusive to the Mustang GTD and it is intended to mimic liquid metal. If that color does not match your preferences, Ford will paint the car in any color you choose.
The new Mustang is impressive not only because of its exterior paint. The GTD is a road-legal version of Ford's GT3 race car and is estimated to complete a lap on Nürburgring Nordschleife in less than seven minutes. Assuming it reaches the estimated lap time, the GTD could become the brand's fastest car around the famous track. The car takes its name from the IMSA GTD racing class, which the Mustang GT3 competes in.
A supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine powers the coupe. Despite Ford not revealing the engine's output, the company aims for an output of over 800 horsepower and a redline of more than 7,500 rpm. The powerful engine will be mated to a rear-mounted, eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle.
2025 Ford Mustang GTD
The vehicle has almost a fifty-fifty weight distribution. To reduce weight, Ford utilized carbon fiber for the hood, fenders, roof, and trunk lid. It also features a titanium exhaust system, and buyers can add an available aerodynamics package with an active rear wing.
Inside, Ford removed the rear seats to save weight. The cabin showcases carbon fiber, Miko suede, and leather with Recaro front seats. Customers can opt for 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters, a rotary dial shifter, and a serial number plate made from retired Lockheed Martin F-22 fighter jet parts.
Details like weight and official output will come later since the car is still in the development process before being production-ready. The new Mustang will be available in late 2024 or early 2025 with an anticipated base price of $300,000.
