US electric car maker Lucid Motors has released the final specifications for its flagship Air Sapphire model, which was announced a year ago. With its three motors, the Sapphire has an output of 920 kW and an EPA range of 427 miles (687 kilometers).
The 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint is rated at 1.89 seconds. Lucid adds that it takes 3.84 seconds for the Air Sapphire to reach 100 mph (161 km/h), and it takes no more than 8.95 seconds to cover the quarter mile. Top speed is 205 mph (330 km/h), but the impressive performance specs come with a hefty price tag - the Air Sapphire costs $249,000.
Lucid introduced the Sapphire performance label almost exactly a year ago. The fact that the Air Sapphire has three motors (two at the rear, one at the front) was already known at the time of the brand's debut. However, at that time, it was said to have "more than 895 kW", now it is 920 kW at peak.

The powertrain was designed and built in-house by Lucid. The dual motor also uses new heat exchanger technology and increased coolant flow. Lucid has adapted the battery system to the higher performance, especially in the area of more precise "thermal logic" or temperature control.
In addition to the triple-motor drive, the Lucid Air Sapphire features carbon-ceramic brakes, a special aerodynamic package, sport seats and a track-tuned suspension, among other things. Since the powertrain has been part of the Air development program from the beginning, the engineers did not have to make any compromises when placing the two electric motors in the available space on the rear axle, according to earlier statements.
Lucid Air Sapphire production will begin in September, with deliveries to follow "shortly thereafter."
