Scheduled to run about 60 times per weekday, Tesla announced that the train aims to transport over 1,500 individuals directly to the factory with each shift rotation.
This new train service will take over from the existing bus shuttle connecting the Grundheinde Gigafactory and Erkner train station, with the goal of alleviating road congestion in the vicinity.
The inaugural ride of the train is slated for September 4. It will operate on railway tracks that Tesla bought from the German Regional Railway Group DRE in the previous January. A new station platform has also been constructed, visible in a video posted a few days ago on the YouTube channel the_wolfpack_berlin.
According to rbb24, the train service received approval from the Brandenburg State Office for Construction and Transport in February. Although initially intended to be operational between April and June, the train will commence its runs approximately five months behind schedule, at the close of Q3.
In March 2022, Tesla began manufacturing the Model Y at its sole European facility and hit a production landmark of 5,000 units per week a year later. A recent report by Business Insider indicates that this rate was an isolated occurrence, with subsequent production volumes dropping to under 4,000 units per week.
