Michael Mann's forthcoming movie "Ferrari" delves into the intense world of 1950s car racing, centering on events leading up to the 1957 Mille Miglia.

Starring Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari and Penelope Cruz as Laura Ferrari, the first trailer for Michael Mann's "Ferrari" has dropped with almost no dialogue. The dramatic montage shows scenes of mounting tension, leading to an invocation that anyone who gets into a Ferrari must be in it to win.

Though it reveals little of the plot, the trailer sets the mood for the movie. The synopsis explains that the film's action is set in 1957, when the company the Ferraris founded just 10 years earlier is facing bankruptcy.

In addition to the uncertainty of their professional lives, the couple's personal lives have been shattered by the loss of their beloved son, Dino, and the discovery of another son born out of wedlock to Enzo's mistress, Lina Lardi (Shailene Woodley).

With this in mind, the company decides to enter its cars in the infamous Mille Miglia road race. Filmed in Brescia, through which the famous event passed, the movie is based on the book "Enzo Ferrari - The Man and the Machine", written by Brock Yates.

It also stars Patrick Dempsey as driver Piero Taruffi, Jack O'Connell as Peter Collins, Sarah Gadon as Linda Christian, and Gabrial Leone as Alfonso de Portago, who [spoiler] tragically blew a tire and crashed, losing his life and that of nine spectators.

Ferrari and the tire manufacturer were charged with manslaughter after the crash, but the case was eventually dismissed, even though five children were among the dead. Mann told Variety that he doesn't plan to shy away from the brutal accident and its aftermath in the upcoming film, which gives the final line of the trailer from Driver some weight.

Ferrari is set to debut at the Venice Film Festival. It will be available in theaters on December 25.
