Toyota has announced a new swan-neck rear wing for the GR86 in Japan. It costs 517,000 yen (the equivalent of $3,556 or 3,272 Euros).

Constructed from carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, the wing features aluminum uprights and attaches to the trunk lid's vertical section.

Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology, Toyota has designed the wing to generate downforce while keeping air resistance at a minimum. The wing comes with three different angle settings that buyers can choose from: 0 degrees, 1.25 degrees, and 2.5 degrees.

For optimal aerodynamic balance, Toyota suggests coupling this wing with its optional Aerodynamic package. The base version of this package is priced at 380,600 yen ($2,615 / 2,408 Euros). A more comprehensive option includes additional features like an aero nose cone, door mirror fins, roof fins, and a side spoiler, and is priced at 492,800 yen ($3,383 / 3,118 Euros).

The second-gen GR86, introduced in the 2022 model year, is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter flat-four engine that delivers 235 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb•ft) of torque. Buyers have the choice between a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission. The car can accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in as little as 6.3 seconds.

According to reports, Toyota is spearheading the development of a third-generation GR86, potentially launching by 2025. The new model will reportedly need to adhere to more stringent emissions norms in Japan and enhanced safety standards in Europe. There's speculation that the new iteration may feature a hybrid engine, possibly utilizing the turbocharged three-cylinder unit found in the GR Yaris and GR Corolla.
