Nissan Motor has pushed back the initiation of manufacturing for its upcoming Kicks SUV in Mexico by roughly six months, following the theft of mold parts from a local supplier, according to a report by the Nikkei newspaper on Tuesday.

Originally scheduled to begin production in December, the revamped "Kicks" is now expected to roll off the assembly line around June 2024, the publication noted.

While Nissan confirmed the postponement, it chose not to disclose specific details.

"Due to an unexpected factor outside the company's control, one of our new-model programmes has been slightly delayed," it said in a statement. "We have no further details to share at this time."

The Aguascalientes facility in Mexico serves as Nissan's manufacturing hub for the Kicks, targeting the North American market. Last year, this model contributed to 8% of Nissan's total U.S. sales, with approximately 54,000 units being sold, as per the Nikkei report.
