Ineos Automotive began production of the Grenadier four-wheel-drive SUV for the North American market last week. Production is based at the company's facility in Hambach, France.

The first US-spec Grenadier is a Belstaff Fieldmaster edition in Scottish White. The SUV rolled off the assembly line Thursday.

The British company, which specializes in rugged, utilitarian SUVs, has already received 7,000 orders for the U.S. market. Deliveries to the U.S. are expected to begin in November, with Canada following in January. Once established, North America is expected to be the largest market for Ineos Automotive.

The Ineos Grenadier features a full box section ladder frame chassis with heavy-duty solid beam axles and is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine from BMW. It's designed for practicality and versatility, with a range of features including a 70:30 split rear door and integrated roof bars. Inside, the emphasis is on functionality.

Ineos Automotive acquired the Hambach plant from Mercedes-Benz in January 2021, investing more than $53.4 million (€50 million) in the facility. The production line boasts advanced features, including a new semi-automated paint shop, a fully automated body shop and an enhanced quality center.

"The start of production for North American vehicles is a significant moment for Ineos Automotive, and for Hambach plant in particular," Lynn Calder, CEO of Ineos Automotive, said. "We have been ramping up the production rate over the last six months to ensure we can deliver to customers as quickly as possible while maintaining the world-class quality standards we set for ourselves."

The North American headquarters of Ineos Automotive is located in Raleigh, North Carolina.

In addition to the Grenadier, Ineos plans to launch three new models by the end of the decade, including two all-electric vehicles. The company had also planned a hydrogen-powered version of the Grenadier, but delayed the launch due to a lack of infrastructure.
