Mercedes-AMG is reportedly developing a more robust electric sedan that won't carry the EQE name, instead transforming into an entirely different model.

Introduced in February 2022, the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ is among the quickest contemporary vehicles from the German manufacturer. Despite its impressive capabilities, it hasn't been able to outperform the Porsche Taycan. As a result, Mercedes-AMG is reportedly developing a more robust electric sedan that won't carry the EQE name, instead transforming into an entirely different model.

The images below offer the first glimpse at what is speculated to be the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT4 EV. The definitive name for the production vehicle has yet to be confirmed, but the internal code for this project is currently C295. Though the prototype is still cloaked in EQE bodywork, the final version is expected to differ significantly.

From an exterior standpoint, not much can be discerned. The electric test car sits low on chunky tires, and there seem to be modifications to the wheel wells to accommodate a broader wheelbase. Most of what's visible will not carry over to the final production model, but the overall size and shape are likely to stay largely the same.

Limited details are available about the design, but there is preliminary data concerning the electric powertrain. Rumor has it that this zero-emission, four-door coupe could pack up to 1,000 horsepower, potentially sourced from either a dual- or triple-motor setup. It's crucial to point out that the GT4 EV—whose name is still unconfirmed—will be an original design and not a revamped version of the EQE 53.

To recap, Mercedes-AMG showcased the Vision AMG Concept last May as an indicator of the brand's future electric offerings. That concept vehicle was built on the new AMG.EA architecture, which is also expected to serve as the foundation for AMG's inaugural standalone electric model. Design elements from the concept, like the six LED lights built into the rear diffuser, are anticipated to make their way into the production variant.
