Direct Connection, Dodge's performance gear division, has revealed that the Hellephant C170 Crate HEMI Engine, which powers the 1,025-horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, will be up for sale on DCPerformance.com starting in the first quarter of 2024.

The Dodge Challenger Demon 170 sets the bar for Hemi engines, but with only 3,300 units slated for production and a base price just shy of $100,000, it's not exactly accessible for the average buyer. However, the engine that fuels this beast will soon be sold separately. Priced at $27,695, it's less costly than the full vehicle but still on par with, or exceeding, the price of many high-performance cars.

In terms of specifications, the crate engine, known as the Hellephant C170, delivers 1,025 horsepower, identical to its performance in the Demon 170. For the cost of a whole Mazda Miata, buyers will get an engine equipped with a 3.0-liter supercharger that complements its 6.2-liter base. A more affordable option is the Hellephant C170 long block, which comes without the intake, supercharger, and other parts, for $18,995.

But that's not all from Direct Connection. They also offer the Hellcrate Redeye 6.2-liter long block, which outputs 807 hp and is priced at $12,995. There's a 717-hp Hellcrate Hemi available too, for $9,495. For those looking for non-supercharged options, the company has 392 and 345 Crate Hemi long blocks priced at $6,995 and $4,495, respectively.

As the Hemi V8 engine phases out, Dodge appears to be pivoting towards electric and twin-turbocharged options like the Hurricane 3.0-liter inline-six engine. Two long-block variants of this inline-six are available, with one rated at 420 hp (the Cat 1) and another at 550 hp (Cat 3). Prices for these engines start at $6,495 and go up to $8,995 for the higher-output version.

Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis stated, "The Dodge Direct Connection portfolio continues to expand since its relaunch in March 2022."

Expect to see the Hellephant C170 and other engines become available for purchase early in Q1 2024.
