In 2025, Toyota is making significant changes to the Camry lineup in America. The ninth-generation 2025 Toyota Camry is now exclusively available with a four-cylinder hybrid setup, marking the end of the 3.5-liter V6 engine and the sporty TRD model.

Toyota has a long history of offering a V6 engine option in the Camry, dating back to the introduction of the six-cylinder in the US in 1988. This V6 engine has been a staple in the Camry lineup ever since. However, for the 2025 model year, the Camry is transitioning to a hybrid-assisted 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers 225 hp for front-wheel drive models or 232 hp for all-wheel drive variants. This is a notable decrease from the outgoing V6's 301 hp.

Regarding the absence of the V6, Toyota stated in their press release that it included "all model year 2025 grades and powertrains." While this statement leaves room for the possibility of the V6 returning in the future, another Toyota spokesperson stated definitively that "the V6 is done."

The TRD trim, known for its cosmetic and handling enhancements rather than powertrain changes, is also missing from the 2025 lineup. For those seeking a more aggressive appearance, the XSE trim is the top choice, featuring two-tone paint and 19-inch wheels. Buyers can select from various two-tone color combinations.

As for the potential for more power in the future, Toyota may turn to the turbocharged Hybrid Max powertrain from the Crown, which combines a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor on the rear axle, producing 340 hp. This could be a solution if a higher-performance Camry is desired down the road.
