Xiaomi, previously known primarily as a gadget maker, is now venturing into the world of electric mobility. The company has applied for approval in China for its first electric car, the Xiaomi SU7 sedan.

Xiaomi SU7 was previously known by the codename MS11. The EV will be manufactured under contract by Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd (BAIC).

The SU7 is an electric sedan with dimensions of 4997/1963/1455 mm and a wheelbase of 3000 mm. It will have two wheel options, 19″ and 20″. Xiaomi showed two versions - with and without lidar. Lidar is installed behind the front windshield.

There is a camera on the B-pillar from the pictures, so it seems like the Xiaomi SU7 will come with a facial recognition unlocking feature.

The powertrain offers two choices: RWD with a 220 kW motor and AWD with a maximum power of 495 kW (220 kW + 275 kW). The BYD LFP battery pack is available for the less expensive trim, while the more expensive option features the CATL ternary NMC battery pack.

MIIT filing shows three versions: SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max. Certain trims have an adjustable rear wing.

Xiaomi SU7 is expected to enter mass production in December 2023, with deliveries starting in February 2024. Trial production has already begun at BAIC's Beijing factory.
