This prototype marks the transition from concept to production. Codenamed NA5, it shares a size profile with the existing X3 model but boasts a lower, sleeker design. Its front face, inspired by BMW's Vision concept cars, reflects the aesthetic of the original Neue Klasse sedan from the 1960s.
The SUV, potentially called the iX3—a name presently used for the electric X3 in Europe—will initiate production in the summer of 2025. It will precede the market launch of a sedan version, based on the Vision Neue Klasse concept, which is expected to replace the current 3-Series. While details about its architecture remain confidential, it's anticipated to offer single and dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configurations, familiar from the 40 eDrive and xDrive grades.

Indications from the prototype, such as blue brake calipers and large wheels, hint at a possible M50 or M60 model, suggesting that BMW might also be developing a high-performance M variant. Theoretically, the platform could deliver up to 1,340 horsepower (1,360 PS), although versions like the iX3M would likely offer less.
Despite its heavy camouflage, the prototype reveals a sportier stance than the current X3, with wide, muscular rear arches and flush door handles. BMW's signature Hofmeister kink is still visible in the rear quarter window, a nod to the brand's design heritage even in this new era of electric vehicles.
