SEAT is set to significantly boost its renewable energy production by adding 39,000 new solar panels. This expansion is part of the company's SEAT al Sol project, which involves installing these panels over an area of 233,000 square meters at its three production sites in Martorell, El Prat, and Barcelona.
The addition, named SEAT al Sol 2, is poised to be one of Europe's largest self-consumption solar installations. It will provide an extra 21 megawatts (MW) of power, enough to self-generate approximately 29 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy each year. This energy is in addition to the green electricity already sourced externally, helping the company maintain its zero CO2 emissions commitment.
This initiative builds on the original SEAT al Sol project, operational since 2013. The current setup, with 53,000 panels at the Martorell site, produces 11 MW of power and 17 GWh of clean energy annually. With the new expansion, SEAT’s total solar energy capability will reach 32 MW, generating 46 GWh of renewable energy every year.
SEAT plans to complete the new solar plants by 2024, in collaboration with CONECTA2 ENERGÍA, a Spanish energy company. The project not only covers the production facilities but also extends to employee parking areas at Martorell, maximizing sustainable energy generation through solar panels.
