Imagine crossing a vast desert. You might not first think of an electric coupe-SUV like the Smart #3, but with some clever modifications and a dash of bravery, this EV reportedly conquered China's Gobi Desert, as shared by its maker, Geely.

Geely revealed photos of the revamped Smart #3. Its standout feature? A set of robust 18-inch all-terrain tires on stark white off-road wheels, offering crucial grip on sandy dunes. The car's suspension also got a revamp, enhancing its ability to tackle tough landscapes.

Utility-wise, the Smart #3 now sports a roof rack and dedicated camera mounts - a nod to practicality. Its white exterior boasts “Speedsters” decals, linking to a Chinese YouTube channel behind this off-road project. The vehicle also features eye-catching blue and teal designs, along with special stickers marking Smart's 25th anniversary.

Powering the Smart #3 are options of single or dual electric motors (including a Brabus version), delivering 272 hp (200 kW) or 428 hp (315 kW). Although an all-wheel drive model might seem ideal for off-roading, the showcased car doesn’t have Brabus-specific designs, suggesting it's the rear-wheel drive variant.

The total distance covered by the EV across the Gobi Desert remains unclear. Spanning 1,500 km (930 miles), the journey would require multiple recharges, given the RWD model's maximum range of 440 km (270 miles) with a 66 kWh battery.

The Gobi, stretching across China and Mongolia, offers a canvas of dunes, mountains, and ice fields across its 1.295 million km² (500,000 square miles). It's a dramatic backdrop for an adventurous YouTube showcase. We're eager to see more proof of this remarkable journey.
