Alfa Romeo is set to introduce its latest model, the Milano, termed a "sport urban vehicle." Slated for an April debut, this crossover marks a significant addition to Alfa Romeo's lineup, especially as it will be available as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV).

For several months, Alfa Romeo has been generating buzz around this new SUV. In June, they engaged their social media audience to suggest names for the upcoming model. While there were speculations, including the name Brennero, the company later hinted at the name Milano in a November teaser showcasing new taillights and the message, "A new era begins."

Positioned in the B-segment, the Milano will serve as an accessible entry point into the Alfa Romeo brand. Speculations suggest it may offer multiple powertrain options, including a hybrid. It's believed that the Milano will share its underpinnings with the Jeep Avenger, introduced last year. The Avenger features a single electric motor with 154 horsepower and a platform compatible with a three-cylinder, mild-hybrid engine. A comprehensive reveal of the Milano is anticipated to occur soon in Milan, Italy.

The Milano's name is a tribute to Milan, the city where Alfa Romeo originated—a nod also reflected in the company's emblem.

Jean-Philippe Imparato, Alfa Romeo's CEO, highlights the model's crucial role in "further strengthening Alfa Romeo's global presence."

It's interesting to note that Alfa Romeo previously used the Milano name for its 75 sedan, a rear-drive model sold in North America. Known for its engaging driving dynamics, the original Milano featured the renowned Busso V6. The new crossover iteration represents a significant shift from the original sedan's legacy. This strategy of reviving iconic names for new models isn't new; Mitsubishi adopted a similar approach in 2017 with the Eclipse.
