The hand-built SUV started with a simple idea from Nick Panos, Sawyer Carpenter and James Frauenberg, who wanted to rebuild the classic British 4x4 for today's expectations using the best American components. The Signature Series 001 is the first vehicle to roll out of their Salt Lake City shop, and although Legend Motor Co. is a new name in the restomod game, this first proof of what they can do looks awesome.
There are no crazy widebody kits here, as the custom SUV retains the iconic silhouette of a Land Rover Defender, updated with modern performance. It has been outfitted with an all-aluminum, Kevlar-lined body for extra off-road protection and now rides on a modern Jeep JK chassis, with grunt coming from a GM LT1 6.2-liter E-Rod engine producing 460 hp and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm).
As for its off-road performance, the redesigned SUV has Fox 2.5 fully adjustable remote reservoir shocks. It also gets a rugged 22.5-gallon (85-liter) polyethylene fuel tank that lets the SUV go on long trips. It also gets a swing-out tire carrier with a full 37-inch spare tire. The Signature Series also gets a galvanized front bumper and trim that enhances the original aesthetics but adds extra durability to the SUV.
Fortunately, the British automaker still develops parts for old Defenders, which helps the team complete even the smallest aspect of the build.
Despite its rugged exterior, the interior of the Signature Series 001 is a blend of luxury and comfort, with hand-stitched full aniline open grain leather covering the front captain's chairs, second-row bench seat and rear cargo jump seats. A modern HVAC system has been added, courtesy of Restomod Air, along with stylish custom gauges from Legend Motor Co, a Soundboks Bluetooth removable stereo system, and "German square" leather-trimmed removable floor mats.
Legend Motor Co is now taking orders for its Signature Series SUV. Owners will receive a one-on-one consultation with the store to select a wide range of options for what they want in their SUV.
Pricing starts at $250,000, there are five colors to choose from, and each unit is hand built and documented to ensure that every detail is captured for posterity.
