SmartThings Energy, as the name implies, focuses on powering your smart home. It will be able to connect with Tesla's Powerwall battery, solar inverter, wall charger, and of course, Tesla vehicles.
Samsung achieved this integration through Tesla's open APIs, and it aims to enhance home experiences for consumers. Chanwoo Park from Samsung mentioned, "Tesla Energy's customers can now manage and monitor their home's power status through SmartThings Energy and Samsung devices, in addition to the Tesla app, ensuring increased access and connectivity."
Additionally, SmartThings Energy will work with the Powerwall's Storm Watch function, allowing customers to receive alerts about extreme weather events on their smartphones and connected Samsung TVs. This feature gives them ample time to activate the AI Energy Mode, which maximizes the backup energy stored in the Powerwall battery.
Samsung will showcase the Tesla integration at CES, but please note that the technology is still in development. The company is targeting a launch in the second quarter of 2024.
For those interested in smart home integration, there's also the SmartThings integration available in Hyundai and Kia vehicles. This feature allows drivers to activate an Away Mode in their cars, which can turn off their home's lights, run a robotic vacuum, and adjust the furnace or air conditioner settings.
