Full-size vehicles based on the STLA Large platform will first appear in North America from Dodge and Jeep, and then from other brands including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Maserati. Eight such models will be produced between 2024 and 2026.

As explained by Stellantis, the STLA Large platform is designed with "unprecedented technological flexibility," which enables a high level of vehicle diversity as well as reliable and cost-effective manufacturing processes that can be duplicated across multiple assembly plants.

Upcoming models based on the STLA Large will cover the full range of electric vehicle types, from passenger cars to crossovers and SUVs. Brand specific model announcements will begin later this year.

The STLA Large-based vehicles will be produced at several Stellantis plants in Europe and North America. At the same time, Stellantis brands will customise the models to suit their applications. The inherent flexibility of the platform allows engineers and designers to adjust the wheelbase, overall length, width and height, as well as ground clearance. Different suspension modules and transmission mounts can be used.

The platform components are designed to maximise useful interior space and storage space. The interior heating/cooling system, steering, braking system and powertrain are designed to minimise energy consumption and maximise range.

The STLA Large allows the use of 400V and 800V electric architectures. Three-in-one electric drive modules (EDMs) comprising a motor, power inverter and gearbox can be configured in front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive layouts. Powertrain performance can be enhanced throughout the life of the vehicle with wireless software upgrades.

First generation powertrain components are capable of 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 2 seconds. Fast charging will add up to 4.5 kWh per minute to the battery pack in a vehicle with an 800-volt system.

The platform initially provides battery options with nominal capacities ranging from 85 to 118 kilowatt-hours (kWh). The STLA Large is designed for a total range of 800 kilometres/500 miles for sedans and is designed to easily integrate future battery generations when they reach production readiness.

Furthermore, the STLA Large can also be used for hybrid powertrains and internal combustion engines with longitudinal or transverse arrangement.

Key features of the STLA Large:

  • Overall length range: 4764-5126 mm.
  • Overall width range: 1897-2030 mm
  • Wheelbase range: 2870-3075 mm
  • Ground clearance range: 140-288 mm
  • Maximum tyre diameter: 32.6 inches

Stellantis is investing more than €50 billion over the next decade in electrification to achieve the goal of achieving 100 per cent of electric passenger car sales in Europe and 50 per cent of battery electric passenger car and light truck sales in the US by 2030. Stellantis plans to bring 48 electric vehicles to market by 2024 and is on track to become a carbon neutral corporation by 2038.
