Porsche CFO, Lutz Meschke, hinted at a potential delay in Europe's plan to ban combustion engines by 2035. Speaking in Singapore during the world premiere of the all-electric Porsche Macan, Meschke said, "There's a lot of discussions right now around the end of the combustion engine. I think it could be delayed."

The European Union had announced a policy to stop sales of new cars with combustion engines from 2035. Exceptions exist for hydrogen-burning and synthetic fuel engines.

In March 2023, Reuters reported a European Commission draft allowing new ICE (internal combustion engine) cars post-2035 if they run on climate-neutral fuels. A follow-up in September demanded carbon-neutral e-fuels for cars.

In the case of Porsche, the Zuffenhausen-based company expects more than 80 percent of its annual global deliveries to be EVs by 2030. Meanwhile, the first-generation Macan will be phased out in 2024 due to new cybersecurity regulations. Its successor, the second-generation Macan (electric), will be launched at a higher price point.
